It’s one of those brilliant DIY hacks that solves two problems at once: what to do with that stack of old t-shirts you can’t bring yourself to throw out, and how to keep your expensive gadgets like laptops and tablets safe from scratches using the Brother CS7000i sewing machine.

The video shows this incredibly clever trick to turn any old t-shirt into a custom-fit, protective sleeve. And we’re not just talking about a simple, flat pocket. This method gives the sleeve real dimension, making it a roomy, professional-looking case for your tech.

So, what’s the secret? It’s all in the corners. The big “aha!” moment for me was watching the creator sew a small diagonal line—they called it a “crest”—across each of the bottom corners of the t-shirt sleeve. You do this, then you flip it right side out, and boom! You’ve created a base with a set width, giving the sleeve a sturdy, three-dimensional shape. It’s such a simple idea, but it makes a world of difference.

The video featured a Brother CS7000i sewing machine, and it highlighted a feature that makes this project a breeze: the reverse gear. After sewing the little “crest” on each corner, you just hit the reverse button to stitch back over it. This double-stitching makes the corners super strong and durable, which is exactly what you want when you’re protecting a pricey piece of tech. No need to take the fabric out and reposition it—just a quick back-and-forth for a seam that will last.
