HOW TO: Remove Old Car Window Tint With STEAM! Conair Turbo Extreme Steam Hand Held Steamer

So 2017 Chevy Volt aftermarket car window tint film was failing and started to bubble. I was not able see to through it and needed to re tint it. The tint shop I went to closed down. Tint shops wanted about $150 to remove it and $100 for a new tint. So i decided to DIY this and save money.

So the steam process of removing tint is simple and will take about 1 hour or so for me to do. I done this before with my other cars year ago. Typically car tint lasts about 5 years before it starts bubbling in the rear window.

I used my old Conair Extreme Turbo Hand Held Steamer ( https://amzn.to/2TWJO8L ) as a steamer to melt the adhesive and safety remove the tint from my rear window with defroster lines. I bought Conair Turbo Extreme 2 IN 1 Steamer and Iron ( https://amzn.to/3GotO1X ) , however I didnt want to dirty it with adhesive for my clothing. Secondly, the Conair Extreme Turbo Hand Held Steamer ( https://amzn.to/2TWJO8L ) was easier to handle, was more focused steam area for better control, and steamed very fast. I also used some microfiber towels ( https://amzn.to/3RBGaKa ) to absorb the adhesive on the final cleaning.

Basic Steps:
Work one corner of the tint use the steam to heat the adhesive. I kept the steam 1-2 cm from the window.
In a few seconds the tint will release from the glue.
I pulled one corner and continued to heat and slowly pull the tint away from the glass and defroster lines. You want the steam to release the adhesive, dont force it.
After all the tint is removed. There may be adhesive on the glass.
Wrap the microfiber towel over the hand held steamer and use it to melt and absorb the adhesive.
I had to run to passes to get all the adhesive off.

Overall it took about 1 hour to remove the tint and adhesive. Next time it would probably take 30 mins as I was being very careful.

COMPARED: CONAIR Turbo Extreme Steam 2 IN 1 “STEAM & IRON” VS Turbo Extreme Steam Hand Held

Last week, I bought Conair Turbo Extreme 2 IN 1 Steamer and Iron ( https://amzn.to/3GotO1X ) at Costco for $49. I am going to compare if with my trusty Conair Extreme Turbo Hand Held Steamer ( https://amzn.to/2TWJO8L ) that also bought at Costco for $39 – four years ago. This is a quick comparison. For a full review and unboxing of both, check out the videos below:

I used Conair Turbo Extreme 2 IN 1 Steamer and Iron ( https://amzn.to/3GotO1X ) to iron my pants and clear winkles and creases from my curtains very quickly. It heats and steam in less than 10 seconds! My Conair Extreme Turbo Hand Held Steamer ( https://amzn.to/2TWJO8L ) heats up in about 20 seconds and can also clear wrinkles and create creases but the fabric or clothing must be hanged. Traditional irons are heavy and need about a three to five minutes for the iron to heat up to temperature.

The 2 IN 1 is newer and generates more heat and surface area to quickly iron steam. It is heavier than the Turbo Hand Steamer as it has a larger aluminum ironing surface and a larger water reservoir. The cord length for both are very long.

Always use DISTILLED WATER to your iron or streamer otherwise the mineral deposits of regular water will destroy your steamer after a few uses. I love the Conair Turbo Extreme as it heats up and streams in about 10 seconds, relatively lightweight, easy to handle, and has a wide hot ironing surface area.

Ironing the cuffs only take about one minute to do with the Conair Turbo Extreme 2 in 1 Steamer and Iron ( https://amzn.to/3GotO1X ) due to the low wait time and large reservoir for water. The attachments were easy to use.

The delicate attachment added about a fabric shield in front of the steam and hot sole plate. The crease attachment is a large clip used to run along the side of a hanging garment to create a crease. This can be used instead of an ironing board. The silicon and nylon brush are good for pulling fabric to remove wrinkles while steaming. I used them on my curtains for fast results. The Conair Turbo Extreme Iron and Steamer 2 in 1 ( https://amzn.to/3GotO1X ) does not have narrow point like a traditional iron to detailed ironing.

Overall I like the new Conair Turbo Extreme Iron and Steamer ( https://amzn.to/3GotO1X ) and can see other uses for this. More so than my Conair Extreme Turbo Hand Held Steamer ( https://amzn.to/2TWJO8L ) that I have owned since 2017! If you already have the prior model and a iron, keep it. But if you want to iron and steam faster, get the new 2 in 1.
