Honda Clarity Vlog – Tip#007: Check Engine Lights @ 11,000 miles – 12 Volt Reset!

Welcome Honda Clarity Tip and Vlog (RTwC) episode 007! I am at 11,053 miles and 7 months of ownership with my Honda Clarity PHEV. This morning I got Check Engine Light (CEL) and other systems sending alerts on my dash board. Brake system problem, Hill assist problem, Engine error, TMPS sensor problem and other issues popping up.

I have full charge on my PHEV battery and a full tank of gas. The temperature was 74 degrees so it wasnt cold. I drove it around the block and the CEL light did not clear. So having to go to work, I opened the hood and disconnected the 12 volt battery for 5 minutes. With most cars this will reset or have the car’s computer clear some codes to recheck what was wrong. While under the hood, i checked the oil, brake, coolant, and windshield liquid levels. Everything was a good levels except the wind shield fluid (https://amzn.to/2K1tqvB ) which i added more. I closed the hood and drove the Honda Clarity around the block and the CEL lights cleared and never came back. UPDATE* It has not reappeared even after 200 miles of driving. If in doubt bring it to a Honda Dealer to check!

The Honda Clarity is a pretty great car with good designed an comfortable ride. I believe Honda programming my have its initial bugs as this was the first model year.
Among other things I will be driving her as a commuter care and a roadtrip car, as I got all weather mats for her ( https://amzn.to/2VIaxBh ) which were great with all the road trips!

Using Tide Pods for the first time!

I got a Tide Pod trial pod and used it for the first time. They sell at Costco Tide Pods – $29 for 168 loads (pacs) vs online : ( https://amzn.to/2ZswKtz ) Btw, my Youtube vlogs and reviews may also have associated affiliate links to products that may earn from qualifying purchases.

It was so nice to look at, but it was easier to use. Just pop it into the laundry load and thats it! So simple, perfect for the trip to the laundry place.

As a comparison, I took a look at other laundry detergent prices at my Costco versus online versions:

I eventually picked up a bottle of the Kirkland Signature Ultra Free and Clear for $11!!! It was a super deal! I also got a bulk bag of Arm & Hammer baking soda ( https://amzn.to/2KXK6VE )for extra cleaning power!

DIY: How to clean coffee and tea stained cups and mugs! 10 years of coffee and milk tea stained stainless steel travel mug cleans up really easy with denture cleaning tablets ( https://amzn.to/3301sYm ). I just soak the cup overnight with about 4 tablets. It softens all the protein and stains right off the stainless steel walls! A simple wash and its like NEW! This works with stainless steel travel mugs (https://amzn.to/2MVSEgL) even if you wash it daily with dish washing liquid ( https://amzn.to/2JyHzjt ) and dish washing sponge (https://amzn.to/2MVIcG2 ) . Its the protein build up of the milk and sugars that stain the walls of the mug.
