This was to replace the one in my car that was stolen. I like that fact that i has a 2,000 mah lithium ion battery built in that can be charged by USB wall charger, solar, or hand crank. The solar cell is on the top of the radio. The USB ports are on the side. The hand crank is on the opposite side. It would take a lot of cranking or hours under the sun to fully charge the battery. Fortunately, you can switch to AAA dry cell batteries for fast power.
I mainly bought it for the NOAA weather / AM / FM radio, flash light, and USB recharge ability for cel phones. However the siren and compact design was a bonus.
