I was at Trader Joe’s and saw they had New Zealand Manuka Honey (8 oz) rated at UMF 10+ for $13.99!!! I bought a bottle to taste test for texture and taste! I made a quick review on Youtube. In my video, I compare Trader Joe’s UMF10+ Manuka Honey with Comvita ( https://amzn.to/2Bjpy4H ) 15+ and 5+ Manuka honey. I also have Melora UMF 5+ manuka honey ( https://amzn.to/2Gk1cez ) which has similar texture and taste to the TJ UMF 10+ Manuka.
The Comvita 15+ is definitely darker, richer, gritter, and earthy tasting than the TJ Manuka. Likewise with the Comvita 5+, was sweeter and grittier than the TJ Manuka. The TJ Manuka had a bit of a smooth creamed honey texture and was sweet. Similar to the Melora Manuka honey I expect the color to darken over time as the honey evaporates.
At $13 for 8 ounces, it’s an awesome value. Typically I paid about $20 for an eight-ounce bottle of UMF 10+ Manuka honey. This is my luxury hobby to collect honey. So I am price sensitive to the cost of specific honey.
I keep all my Manuka honey I collect in room temperature.
Costco just restocked Melora New Zealand 10+ UMF Manuka honey on sale! The Melora Manuka Honey is 10+ UMF + (1.1 lb or 500g ) are all priced at $31.99! They are similarly priced at on Amazon ( https://amzn.to/2tgjLZj ) for Melora.
I current eat about 1 to 3 jars of Manuka honey every year and found I prefer 10+ UMF honey more as it has a good balance of rich sweet flavor, aroma, and texture. I noticed that the higher the UMF the denser the honey and flavor. 10+ was a good balance.
I bought a lot of Manuka honey over the years, most have been from Costco and Amazon. I made a taste test video prior.
