 Going the Distance: My LifeStraw for Hikes and Camping Trips

For longer hikes and camping trips, the amount of water you have to carry can really weigh you down. I used to pack a heavy hydration bladder even for a few-hour trek. But now, I know that’s not the only option. The LifeStraw Personal Water Filter has become an essential part of my gear, giving me a much lighter and more compact solution to staying hydrated.

The real beauty of this on the trail is the weight and space savings. At less than 2 ounces (46 g), it’s effortless to pack and gives me the freedom to carry just some water and have the LifeStraw as an additional resource for water. When I come across streams and natural water sources, I don’t have to worry about how clear they are. The LifeStraw filters out bacteria, parasites, microplastics, silt, sand, and cloudiness, so I can just drink the filtered water straight from the source.

The peace of mind knowing it’s purifying everything is huge when you’re relying on untreated water. The LifeStraw takes some of that worry off my mind. The water tastes pure, with no weird aftertaste, and the flow is surprisingly good.

Water Bottle Backup: My LifeStraw on the Local Trails

Living here near Los Angeles, we’ve got some decent hiking spots within a short drive. Used to be, I’d load up a heavy hydration bladder even for a quick few-hour trek. One time on a 9 hour hike I got lost and ran out of water. Then I started thinking, “There’s gotta be a backup for next time i run out of water.” That’s where the LifeStraw Personal Water Filter came in. Now, I just carry a medium water bottle and the Lifestraw, knowing I can refill it from a stream or even a less-than-crystal-clear natural water source if I have to.

The real beauty of this LifeStraw on the trail is the weight and space savings. It can freeing up room in my pack for snacks and other essentials. When I come across a clean running water source and if i am out of bottled water, I just use the LifeStraw in, and drink straight from it like a straw. It’s that simple.

The peace of mind knowing it removes 99.99% of Waterborne Bacteria (Including E. Coli and Salmonella), and 99.99% of Waterborne Parasites (Including Giardia and Cryptosporidium) is huge. You see water in nature, but you never really know what’s lurking in it. The LifeStraw takes that worry off my mind.
