HOW TO SHORTEN and HEM PANTS with a Sewing Machine – Fast & Easy

I am going to show you how to shorten and hem pants with Singer sewing machine ( https://amzn.to/3C8Xjmw ). It is fast and simple to do. With the need to return to the office, I bought 9 pairs of new wrinkle free performance pants ( https://amzn.to/3HXnQqo ) , however they are too long for me. I needed to shorten and hem them but my local shop was closed.

In this video my Mom taught me how to shorten and hem pants in the fast and easy way using aThread Kit for Sewing ( https://amzn.to/3leLqoN ) and her Singer sewing machine ( https://amzn.to/3C8Xjmw ). It takes about 20 minutes per pair of pants to shorten. The first one took an hour learning.

We used a Singer 4322 Heavy Duty Sewing Machine ( https://amzn.to/3C8Xjmw ) is a gift to my mother as her 25 year old Singer Sewing machine failed after 25 years. She really liked the Singer Sewing machine simple knobs and included accessories. It was also powerful and went through heavy clothe like denim / jeans easily.

SHORTEN and HEM PANTS STEPS:

1. Wash before altering if cloth will shrink
2. Measure length 
3. Pin / mark measure cuff
4. Remove stitches 
5. Cut length with extra for cuff 
6. Cut side  extra fabric overlap hump 
7. Remove side stiches if tapered hem
8. Sew new cross stitch to prevent fraying fabric
9. Sew new straight line hem 
    10. Iron new crease

We finished all 9 pairs in about 3 hours and have a fun time learning and bonding!

The cats used to scratch the couch leg as it resembled a scratching post. By getting a round scratching ball they tend to avoid the area all together. They dont scratch the ball or the couch anymore. Perhaps its the shape?

We leave Cat Scratching BALL ( https://amzn.to/3riAsmd ) next to the couch and it deters them from scratching the couch. We are keeping it cuz it seems to be working for the past 2 months. The cats still use other scratching posts, just not this ball or the couch. Overall its a success!

Overall its looks modern and deters the cats so we are keeping it. Even if they don’t play with it.

Pros:

  • Easy care – just wash with washing machine and dry
  • Waist expands up to 2 inches! perfect for dinners!
  • Rubberized waistband to keep shirts tucked

Cons:
Elastic stretch bands may degrade over 3 or more years.

Overall its a good performer and gets the job done. Both are great for performance travel packing, fitness and workout, and great to lounge in.
