The most important maintenance step I perform is lint removal. After every few hours of sewing or after a big project, I make it a point to clean out the bobbin area. Lint and thread fibers accumulate rapidly here and can interfere with stitch quality and even damage the machine’s delicate computerized mechanisms. I use the small brush that came with the machine to sweep away all the fuzz. A key rule I follow: I never use compressed air directly into the machine’s interior, as it can push lint deeper into sensitive areas.

I also regularly check and change my needles. A dull or bent needle is a common culprit for skipped stitches, fabric snags, or even damage to the machine. Since the Brother CP60X is so versatile, handling everything from hemming delicate fabrics to thicker repairs, I make sure to use the correct needle type and size for my fabric and replace it frequently. Getting started with a new sewing machine can sometimes feel like learning a whole new language, but the installation and initial setup of my Brother XM2701 Sewing Machine were wonderfully simple. And thankfully, keeping this lightweight, full-featured machine in top condition has proven to be just as easy, ensuring its reliability and great button feel and gameplay (oops, that’s my other review showing through! The installation was a breeze. I simply unboxed it, placed it on my sewing table, and plugged it in. The clear, numbered diagrams on the machine itself guided me through threading the upper tension, and the automatic needle threader made putting the thread through the needle incredibly quick and frustration-free. I had the bobbin wound and inserted in seconds, and I was literally ready to start my first sewing projects within minutes of taking it out of the box.
