When I got my Fosi Audio Box X2 Phono Preamp, I was eager to experience its promised clarity and warmth of sound reproduction and witness its vacuum tube aesthetics. My biggest concern, as a casual audio enthusiast, was the installation process. I wanted it to be straightforward, without complicated wiring diagrams or obscure connections. Thankfully, setting up the Fosi Audio Box X2 was remarkably simple, truly a plug-and-play experience that had me enjoying my vinyl in minutes.

The first step was placing the preamp. Because of its attractive mid-century modern look and compact size, I chose a spot right next to my record player on my audio shelf. Its small footprint means it doesn’t take up much space, which is great for my setup. I ensured it was on a flat, stable surface where the tubes could breathe and be admired.
Next came the connections. This is where its “preamp for record player” simplicity shines. I took the RCA cables coming directly from my turntable and plugged them into the “INPUT” jacks on the back of the Fosi Audio Box X2. These inputs are clearly labeled, making it impossible to get them wrong. Then, I connected another set of RCA cables from the “OUTPUT” jacks of the Fosi preamp to a standard “LINE IN” or “AUX” input on my stereo receiver or amplifier. Crucially, I made sure not to plug it into a “PHONO” input on my receiver, as that would double-amplify the signal.
The ground wire connection was equally simple. My turntable has a small ground wire, which I attached to the clearly marked “GND” (ground) screw terminal on the back of the Fosi Audio Box X2. This step is vital for reducing hum and ensuring clean sound, and the terminal made it easy to secure.
Finally, powering Fosi Audio Box X2 up was the last step. I connected the included power adapter to the DC input jack on the back of the preamp and then plugged it into a wall outlet. As soon as I did, the vacuum tubes inside began to glow with a soft, inviting orange light, indicating it was powered on and ready. The entire installation process took me less than five minutes, and I was immediately ready to drop the needle and enjoy my enhanced vinyl sound.
