Costco HORIZON ORGANIC – Dry Whole Milk 30oz for $20 – Trying for the first time – REVIEW

Costco HORIZON ORGANIC – Dry Whole Milk in a 30 oz can for $20. I will be making a cup of whole milk to try this for the first time! This is the first time i seen Costco carry dry whole milk. Normally they have dry low fat or fat free milk at their business Costco. I have been buying other dry whole milk online ( https://amzn.to/3aHAaga ).

In this video i will try and test the whole milk by adding hot water. You can also add cold water however i suspect it will desolve the dry milk powder faster using hot water. The instructions ask for 1/4 cup of powder to 8 oz of water. I added about 5-6 teaspoons or about 1/4 of my cup to try out. It tasted very good and cooled to have a layer of milk skin from the fat. Super tasty and organic!

I am trying this out as I am buying supplies and food to prep for emergencies or disaster preparedness. I got two cans of Dry whole milk incase I am not able to go to the market for milk, or if i needed to go on vacation and dont want my milk to spoil.

12L HALOGEN TURBO CONVECTION OVEN – REVIEW – Hi TEMP Glass Air Frying!

I got a 12L HALOGEN Turbo convection oven ( https://amzn.to/2UReFAM ) that is made with glass as i wanted to air fry at higher temperatures. I also didnt want to use non-stick airfryers due to the coating coming off. So I got a glass halogen convection oven for air frying. Its basically functions the same, however it uses a halogen heat element to cook the food. Cooking for the first time it is very quiet compared to my 6 QT airfryer ( https://amzn.to/3hAk3Ck ) almost silent. The glass insulates the sound and heat. The sides of the glass are hot. My halogen oven goes upwards of 480 degrees to bake cakes or broil meals. For my first attempt at cooking bbq wings, i covered the bottom of the glass bowl with aluminum foil for easy cleaning. Overall the glass was easy to clean overall as was the two accessory racks. The oven itself was self cleaning. With the glass container you are able to see your food cook with great clarity. Unlike using an enclosed air fryer or small window conventional oven, you an make videos of your video while cooking. Probably good for youtubers.

The only drawback of this oven was the bright light during the cooking process. They need to make a reflective shield for the top half of the glass container. The other issue is the design is not very convenient due to the foot print of the appliance being so large. however it also means you can cook a full frozen pizza in this. The top is also very awkward to cook with as you need a place the top half on a pot or pan while removing the cooked food.

Overall if you want to get away from non-stick cooking surface, a very bright mood light, cook at higher than airfryer temperatures and be able air fry your tater tots, chicken wings, or whole frozen pizza this may be the solution for you. However it does take up lots of space and is awkward to open. It also costs the same as a current larger then 6 qt 1500+ watt air fryers ( https://amzn.to/3hAk3Ck ).

Using a whetstone ( knife sharpening stone ) for the first time.

I wanted to learn how learning how to sharpen my kitchen knives using a whetstone. There are many types whetstones sold online ( https://amzn.to/2R0hy0g ) ranging from various grits of 300 to 8000. I wanted to learn the fundamentals before I upgrade to better Santoku knife ( https://amzn.to/3dLVm3R ) and a better whetstone in future. Btw, my Youtube vlogs and reviews may also have associated affiliate links to products that may earn from qualifying purchases.

I went out and bought a $1 whetstone and a $1 entry level Santoku (https://amzn.to/3dLVm3R ) style kitchen knife from a dollar store to practice on. My parents have been using their 20+ year old 8 inch whetstone to sharpen every knife and scissors in their house since i was a kid. My dad loved spending time sharpening knives. I always wanted a Santoku knife and aspire to own a better one in the future.

After spending about 1 hour sharpening my $1 Santoku blade, it was really sharper compared to factory! I was able to easily cut paper and dice apples .
Things I learned from this practice:

  1. Keep your focus on technique, motion and consistent angle for a good sharp edge (burr).
  2. Keep the whetstone and knife wet and lubricated. This keeps the metal shavings build up low on the whetstone.
  3. A new whetstone needs A LOT of water in the beginning. It was easier just to sharpen the knife in a tub of water.
  4. Even $1 Whetstone can make a $1 Santoku knife razor sharp. Definitely worth it to have in the kitchen or garage for extending the lives of knives and sharpening tools.

I will be practicing more on my $1 whetstone before buying more advanced whetstone ( https://amzn.to/2R0hy0g ) in the future.
