Using a whetstone ( knife sharpening stone ) for the first time.

I wanted to learn how learning how to sharpen my kitchen knives using a whetstone. There are many types whetstones sold online ( https://amzn.to/2R0hy0g ) ranging from various grits of 300 to 8000. I wanted to learn the fundamentals before I upgrade to better Santoku knife ( https://amzn.to/3dLVm3R ) and a better whetstone in future. Btw, my Youtube vlogs and reviews may also have associated affiliate links to products that may earn from qualifying purchases.

I went out and bought a $1 whetstone and a $1 entry level Santoku (https://amzn.to/3dLVm3R ) style kitchen knife from a dollar store to practice on. My parents have been using their 20+ year old 8 inch whetstone to sharpen every knife and scissors in their house since i was a kid. My dad loved spending time sharpening knives. I always wanted a Santoku knife and aspire to own a better one in the future.

After spending about 1 hour sharpening my $1 Santoku blade, it was really sharper compared to factory! I was able to easily cut paper and dice apples .
Things I learned from this practice:

  1. Keep your focus on technique, motion and consistent angle for a good sharp edge (burr).
  2. Keep the whetstone and knife wet and lubricated. This keeps the metal shavings build up low on the whetstone.
  3. A new whetstone needs A LOT of water in the beginning. It was easier just to sharpen the knife in a tub of water.
  4. Even $1 Whetstone can make a $1 Santoku knife razor sharp. Definitely worth it to have in the kitchen or garage for extending the lives of knives and sharpening tools.

I will be practicing more on my $1 whetstone before buying more advanced whetstone ( https://amzn.to/2R0hy0g ) in the future.

Brown Sugar Boba Ice Cream Bar – REVIEW – 4 for $7.99

I was searching my local HMart and Ranch 99 Market for Brown Sugar Boba ice cream and it was SOLD OUT last week. They FINALLY restocked an i picked up a box. It costs $7.99 for 4 bars. Btw, my Youtube vlogs and reviews may also have associated affiliate links to products that may earn from qualifying purchases.

I polished off the first box of 4 with in my car making my review video. I bought a second box for snacking later. Is it worth the $2 a bar cost? For soft chewy boba with the unique flavor and novelty of having a brown sugar milk tea on a ice cream bar – YES! I still prefer fruit ice cream bars.

There’s a lot of hype with these ice cream overall I liked the taste as they taste like boba milk tea with lots of chewy bobas in bedded into the ice cream bar. The outside brown sugar was sweet covering the inner milk tea icecream overall it was a refreshing find. I have tasted other milk tea ice cream bars from Ranch 99 supermarkets the other one I like was the Hong Kong Milk tea ice cream bar.

Perhaps you can make your own ice cream at home. I may do a video on making my own ice cream or home made ice cream rolls.

UNBOXING – Binaural Sound Recording! Roland CS-10EM and Zoom H1n Stereo audio recorder!

I wanted to record better audio as well as binaural, 3D, and stereo sound. I went out and got Roland CS-10 ( https://amzn.to/30iaspN ) and found out it needed a phantom power through its 3.5 mm mic jack. I went with more compact sub $100 Zoom H1n ( https://amzn.to/2O8cx50) which as 2.5 volts for phantom power for Roland CS-10.
I could have bought a Roland recorder ( https://amzn.to/2Lu55Q2 ) or a Tascam DR-05 ( https://amzn.to/2LPpe20) . However i like the smaller thin form factor of the Zoom H1n.

Btw, my Youtube vlogs and reviews may also have associated affiliate links to products that may earn from qualifying purchases.

I eventually bought the following:
Zoom H1n Stereo recorder: https://amzn.to/2O8cx50
Zoom H1n Furry Windscreen Muff Wind Cover: https://amzn.to/2LxG7iX
Roland CS-10EM – binaural stereo microphones and monitors: https://amzn.to/30iaspN

I also got the furry windscreen to do field recording outdoors. I would like to try out the Roland CS-10EM and Zoom H1n in stereo to do ambient sound recordings. More to come later! For now i want to test out the noise cancelling abilities of my recent purchase of the Sony wh-1000xm3 :
