Cooking DIY Bread Making #01: French Bread!!!

I got a 80’s Oster’s One Pound Deluxe Bread and Dough Maker from a friend who doesnt use it any more.  Its a really cool kitchen appliance that brought a lot of joy to use, watch, and make bread from.  There are more modern bread makers on sale if you want make your own bread or wake up to the smell of fresh bread in the morning:  https://amzn.to/2MoZ5qD. I didnt have a chance to do a unboxing video, however the 80’s Oster’s One Pound Deluxe Bread and Dough Maker was quite simple to use and my friend gave me a quick recipe book for bread making to get me started. There are other bread machine books online ( https://amzn.to/2W9tuOb ), but the primary thing for me was to make French bread.

So to make 1 lb loaf of  French bread with a bread machine, you will need the following tools and ingredients:
0. Bread Machine: (https://amzn.to/2MoZ5qD )
1. Oven mitt to take the bread pan out when complete.  ( https://amzn.to/2FQnqo2 )
2. Measuring Cup and spoon: a simple set will do  ( https://amzn.to/2W76lvL )
3. Water (3/4 cup ) : I used room temperature filtered tap water
4. All Purpose Flour (2 cups):  https://amzn.to/2DqbVSK
5. Sugar (1 1/4 Table spoon): https://amzn.to/2CBO1Sy
6. Salt (1 teaspoon) : https://amzn.to/2T7VLmq
7. Active Dry Yeast (1-1/4 teaspoon) :  https://amzn.to/2Mn8r6q

Turn on the bread machine. I added the ingredients in order: water, flour, sugar, salt, and lastly yeast.  On the bread machine, i set the bread to French, Medium crust, and no delayed start.  The bread machine told me it will take 4 hours and 30 minutes to complete. The press start to make it knead the dough and start the process.

You can add a delay so it can make the bread for you when you wake up the next day, rather than wait 4.5 hours. Since we got this 80s bread maker as a gift we wanted to supervise the baking to see if it functions correctly.

After about hour of kneading, the dough looks great an the texture of the rising bread was good.  We let the machine complete its process.

When it completed, we lifted the hot pan out of the bread maker with oven mitts. We released the loaf from the paddle buy turning the axle underneath about pan a 20 degrees clockwise and then back counter clock wise.  Then upside down the pan and the loaf falls out.

The side crust was crispy and  great. The center bread was meaty and soft. The bread had a slight salt taste to it which tasted great!.

Overall was it worth waiting 4.5 hours for fresh bread? Yes it was. It was great seeing the process and watching the  automated actions make perfect bread.

UNBOXING: AUKEY Dual Dash Front / Rear 1080p Camera & AUKEY Hardwire Motion Detection Sensor!

I have front dash cams on all my cars.  I wanted to try out a front and rear dash cam and bought a AUKEY Dual Dash Cam – 1080P HD Front and Rear Camera! ( https://amzn.to/2THPihQ ) and a AUKEY Hardwire Motion Detection Sensor ( https://amzn.to/2D7zXBI ) which plugs into the OBDii port of the car for power.

This quick video is just an unboxing of the two products and a brief test and initial review.  I will create install video later.   I have already installed this camera and the hardwire on my car. Overall it was a simple install.

The AUKEY hardwire with Motion Detector Sensor powers and sends a signal to dash cams with a Parking Mode to trigger a recording.  The attached box is a motion detection sensor need to be installed  onto the windshield of the car.  I found visibly annoying to take up my windshield real estate.  I later took removed it.

I also did not want to drain my car’s 12 volt battery when I leave my car on business trips.  For a future DIY  I plan to add a battery power bank to enable the parking recording without draining my car battery.

In addition,  it uses the car’s 12 volt battery with the OBD-II DLC port  by the drivers foot well.  This is convenient if you do not want to use a fuse tap ( https://amzn.to/2VSlLDV ) or slice wire for 12 volt power.

If you use your OBD-II port for other devices, don’t like the motion sensor box, or don’t like using your OBD-II port for power, there are other 12 volt hardwire kits that uses fuse taps ( https://amzn.to/2Fxedkz ) for your dash cam or USB powered devices.

Look out for more videos about this Dash cam installation, footage, and other car reviews  in the future.

5 Gallon Lids REVIEW: Gamma Lids vs Regular Lids vs Flexible Soft lids for Pet Food Storage.

Just a quick comparison between Gamma Lid ($7) vs Food Grade ($5) and Easy Soft ($2) lids for 5 Gallon Pet Food Storage ideas.  I just got a some Gamma lids ( https://amzn.to/2C1uDOF ) to replace one of my older Soft 5 Gallon Lids ( https://amzn.to/2SG1Vdo ) and my food grade 5 gallon lids with spouts ( https://amzn.to/2SzNBTn ) .

Overall I like the convenience of the $2 flexible lids over the Gamma and Food grade lids for pet food as it is easy to open to feed the animals.  They may only last about 2 years and may not be as durable as the other lids, but they are very easy to handle daily.

The Gamma lids are awesome and are air tight for pet food.  The minor issue would be the chance of over tightening the screw top, making it difficult to open. It is a lower price alternative than a dedicated pet food bin with Gamma lids which range from $25- $40 dollars : https://amzn.to/2LTTmJo .    With the Gamma lids I don’t see how these are removable after installing on a 5 gallon bucket. I fear using a bucket tool ( https://amzn.to/2Rto94X ) may break the thin lid walls during removal.

The food grade commercial lids with spouts  that came with my food grade buckets ( https://amzn.to/2SzNBTn ) . Need a bucket lid tool ( https://amzn.to/2Rto94X ) to open every time. IT is pretty easy to open with the tool, maybe easier to open than the Gamma lids, however you need the tool to open it.  For long term food storage I would use the food grade bucket lids which are air tight and extremely strong.  Closing the snap on lids require a mallet or the lid tool to hammer seal the lids.

I heard many different reviews about Flex Seal and how effective it is some are positive and some are not as positive.  Overall its basically rubber spray.
